It was a great experience for me to translatewith this brigade for Doctor David Gamm.It was a time of service and learning and I alsohad a lot of fun when I put the drops in the eyesof the patients. They told me that I was the badguy because the drops sting a little bit. Also itwas very fun when the patients called me DOCTOR!!! It helped me appreciate and value thesimple things in life.
I also appreciate that I was able to receive aprofessional and thorough eye exam, which farexceeded the level of care I experienced with aprivate physician down here. I admire the professionalism of Dr. Gamm. He took his time toexamine each patient and much care to tell thepatient or parent the problem that they had intheir eyes.
One of the complaints of each patient wasthat they could not read their Bibles becausethey could not see the letters. It gave me greatjoy to see children and young people with prosthetic eyes and the ways it changes their image, personality, and emotions.
Generally I feel that this brigade has changedmy way of thinking and I value having my eyeshealthy. I am filled with joy to see people whohave never had the money to buy a pair ofglasses and joy for them to receive this gift thathas changed their lives in fulfilling the abilityto read the Bible. Since this brigade, I am notthe same. It changes my point of view aboutlife... and eyes, as there were patients (babies)about to lose the only eyethey had left because ofthe retinoblastoma. SoI am thankful that I waspart of this brigade andthankful to this group ofdoctors and the peoplewho invest their time andmoney to help people inneed.
